What is Single Ingredient Eating or Eating Chemical Free?
There is not one perfect diet for everybody. We are all different. There are people who thrive on high carbohydrate diets and people who thrive on high fat and high protein diets. The one common trend to an unhealthy diet is processing. I needed to see what will happen if I cut out all processed foods from my diet.
First, we need to come to the realization that food “science” and marketing in recent decades has crowded all of the REAL food out of our grocery stores to the point that at LEAST 90% of everything in a modern-day grocery store is NOT true food anymore…
The so-called “food” that lines our grocery store shelves nowadays is better termed --“Edible Food-Like Substances”, as the highly respected nutrition journalist Michael Pollan calls it.
“Edible Food-Like Substances”
I absolutely love that term and think it is SO very true!
Our food supply has become so overly processed, that it’s not uncommon for a simple snack food to contain a list of 20-30 ingredients of additives, chemicals, flavorings, colorings, high fructose corn syrup, MSG, artificial sweeteners, and more.
I know this and yet I continue to eat garbage. When will I learn? When it’s too late? When I am so huge I can't see my shoes? When I am sick? When I get cancer? It shouldn’t have to be that way.
I just want to feel better. I want to be healthier and more fit. More mentally alert. To live longer than middle age. All of this stems from my eating. I realize that some form of exercise is needed as well. But as I have said many times, you can’t out exercise a bad diet. No sense in exercising if you are going to eat crap.
If people just cut out refined stuff, ate real foods (animal proteins, vegetables, whole-food fats, natural starches), and paid attention to absolutely nothing else, they would improve their health profile and lose body fat. I think it would take them 70-80% of the way towards their goals.
I adopted the chemical free, single ingredient structure to my diet and I am glad I did. I have lost weight, I sleep better, I have more energy, and most importantly, I am healthier.

So...here we go!!
I challenge you to stand on the bathroom scale (shudder) and write the numbers you see on the scale on your bathroom mirror in permanent marker (washes off easily with Windex). Why the bathroom mirror? You have to brush your teeth and your hair every day through those numbers (shudder again). Change your eating habits for one month, eat only single ingredient foods like I do. What does that mean? Pretty simple, the food I eat has to be made up of a single ingredient that are real food (came from nature, not a lab), no chemicals. I combine my single ingredient foods to create a meal, for example, diced chicken, fresh broccoli, fresh celery, onion, and fresh garlic sauted in olive oil and for desert, a frozen banana blended in a blender (tastes and has texture of banana ice cream). I can eat as much as I want, as often as I want, and what I want as long as it is single ingredient (no chemicals). The only added fats I use are olive oil, sometimes vegetable oil, and real butter. There are many variations of the single ingredient meal plans.
