"I can't believe she lied to me. She was supposed to be my best friend. I can't believe he would fall for her lies either. I feel betrayed by both of them. How could they do this to me?” Her mother’s arms felt strong and safe. She sobbed uncontrollably as her mom rocked her gently. Mom petted her 16 year old daughter hair as she said, “Abby, a best friend wouldn’t do what Jill did and a boyfriend who cares about you wouldn’t do what Sam did. Neither of them deserves to have someone as wonderful as you in their life. You need to see that they are not your friends.”

“Mom! Jill IS my best friend and Sam said he loves me!” The hurt was evident on her face.

“Honey, if that were true they wouldn’t have gone on a date behind your back. You need to see the big picture here.”

“Big picture!?! The only thing I see is that I want to die! I just want to die!” She was crying harder now.

“Shhh Honey, don’t cry. Everything will be alright.”

Abby didn’t believe her mom. Nothing would ever be right again.
